March 26, 2020 - The Focus newsletter is dedicated to bringing you the latest updates and information.  The articles written in this edition are carefully crafted to help you and your business navigate through these uncharted waters.

Here at Dermody, Burke & Brown, CPAs, our top priorities are the health and safety of our staff, our clients, and our communities. I want to assure you that our firm expects to remain fully operational throughout the duration of this public health crisis.  Our firm’s robust technology allows us to remain ahead of the curve and we are continuing to provide essential services and complete your work without regard to physical location.

In the meantime, we recognize that our business clients are trying to keep a steady cash flow to help their employees through this difficult time. Our payroll service is continuing to process payrolls for our clients so their employees can get paid.  Our tax staff is continuing to prepare income tax returns so that those getting refunds will get those refunds as soon as possible.

In recent news, the IRS announced (Notice 2020-18) that both the federal income tax return filing and payment dates have been delayed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency.  The New York state tax deadline has also been postponed to match the federal extension.  Tax Day is now July 15, 2020 and all taxpayers and businesses will have additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.  Guidance is changing daily on both the federal, New York State and local levels and we will continue to communicate these changes with you.

As a community, we are in this together.  Dermody, Burke & Brown is here to help you and your business move forward during these unprecedented times. We hope you find the information in these articles useful and please do not hesitate to reach out directly to your professional advisor with any questions.

Regards,

Madelyn H. Hornstein, CPA, CEO
